How can I get my Nissan ready for spring?
Test your battery: Everyone knows that Ohio can have some pretty brutal winters, which means your battery is going to take a major hit. When the weather warms up, it’s a great time to have your battery tested to see how well it’s holding a charge. For any battery that is more than 5 years old, it might be recommended to replace it. In addition to testing the battery, it’s important to check for corrosion and clean off the wiring and connections if possible. This will help extend battery life.
Check the tires: This might either seem too obvious, or like something you can put off, but trust us, your tires are an important part of the overall functioning of your Nissan. Your tires create friction with the road beneath your vehicle, helping keep you firmly on the road, especially during those rainstorms that happen every spring. By checking the tread and tire pressure, you are helping ensure safety and you also won’t spend too much money filling up your tires.
Monitor fluids: From windshield wiper fluid to brake fluid, there are many different things that you should be looking at. With some systems, like the transmission and power steering, any loss in fluid might be a sign of an underlying leak that needs to be addressed. Beyond that, we highly recommend topping off your coolant, especially as spring changes into summer. You don’t want your engine overheating just because of a lack of coolant!
Get new wiper blades: As we mentioned, winter can be particularly hard on car batteries. However, winter is also not so great on windshield wipers. If you notice that your wiper blades are cracked, or they’re streaking, now is a great time to replace them. Nothing is more important than making sure that you can see properly out of the front windshield.
